Respect is a given on the NAWCC message board Members will not always get along. They will often disagree and get into heated debate. Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact the NAWCC message board administrator immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so; within a reasonable time frame, if it is determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

1. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by the NAWCC. Although this Message Board (MB) does not and cannot review all the messages posted and is also not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we at this MB reserve the right to delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever.

2. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless NAWCC, Inc., this MB (Moderators and Admins), vBulletin (the makers of this message board software), and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s).

3. Posts may not be made on behalf of a banned member.

Forum-specific Rules

Some forums have rules that must be adhered to in addition to those listed here. Specific rules are posted at forum announcement. All visitors and members should familiarize themselves with these rules before posting in these forums.

No spam

Registered users who spam other members through private messaging, email or information obtained by visiting links posted in threads will have their accounts immediately suspended.

Members may only promote the services of other companies if they have substantial firsthand experience as a customer. Recommending someone's services without having used those services yourself is not allowed. This includes promoting services about which you've heard from others.

The NAWCC message board’s definition of spam applies to all referral links posted in profiles, signatures, titles and threads. You may not post a link that redirects the visitor in any way. Likewise, you may not post links to sites from which you may benefit from affiliation. You may only link to a site with an NAWCC affiliate program or if you are the owner of the domain, and in this case, the rule barring redirects still applies.

Appropriate and inappropriate linking

Forum visitors may not post links to sites containing illegal materials, including pirated software/wares, trojans, worms or software classified as spyware, adware or malware (final determination to be made by the moderating team). In addition, because this site is open for use by minors, visitors may not link to pages that contain pornographic material. Linking to gateways for sites containing such materials may be prohibited at the discretion of the moderating team. This includes visual materials of an "R-rated" nature as well. Links to sites with wholely obscene or grossly offensive language not commonly considered suitable for minors may be edited as well, again at the discretion of the moderating team.

This rule applies to thread posts, custom titles, signatures and profile information.

Linking to and Referencing Items For Sale

You may not link to, list, or reference any specific item or part thereof, whether horological or not, that is presently being offered at auction or otherwise advertised or posted for sale. However, you may refer to suppliers of parts, materials or tools that are considered normal stock items, and are generally available in quantities, for the purpose of assisting a member with a project or task.

This rule applies to thread posts, custom titles, signatures and profile information.

Advertising on the NAWCC forums is not allowed

All "For Sale ads" and "requests for timepiece values" are prohibited on these Bulletin Boards. This rule also prohibits responding to posts with offers to purchase the specific item under discussion.

If you are looking to either buy or sell horological items please use the NAWCC e-Mart or the NAWCC Mart.

Use at your own risk!

Considering the real-time nature of this bulletin board, it is impossible for us to review messages or confirm the validity of information posted.

Advice, information, feedback and advertised services cannot be verified for accuracy or authenticity by NAWCC message board administrators or moderators. Therefore, any member who makes use of another member's services or posted information in any way assumes all risks for doing so.

Forum contents are public and indexable

Please remember that anything you choose to post in these forums can be viewed by other members, guests, search engines and both harmless and malicious bots. We strongly advise you not to post email addresses or personal contact information within forum threads, unless you are willing to assume all risks associated with doing so.

Account limits

Individuals are allowed one (1) account, regardless of the number of businesses they represent. If multiple accounts are activated from the same location, all active accounts will be suspended. If more than one person at the same location wishes to sign up for an account, please notify site administrators.

Scope of conversation

Discussions on the merits of a business, service or another visitor/member are limited to personal experiences only. Illegitimate revenge/vendetta threads will be handled as seen fit by moderators or administrators.

Proper use of your profile

NAWCC message board members may fill in as much or as little of their personal profiles as they'd like. However, fields must be used appropriately. Members may not splash links throughout their profiles (signature and Website fields excluded), and advertising messages are limited to appropriate signature use. Members may use these fields creatively or humorously, but your profile is meant to define your personality, not to be used as a billboard. Members who use their profiles inappropriately will have them edited. Members who persist in this behavior may be warned or banned.

Avatars, profile photos and image uploading

NAWCC message board members are permitted to post photos in their profiles and upload images in threads. All images must be treated with the same set of rules that govern the posting of text in regards to respect. In addition, images containing obscenity, violence, inappropriate sexual themes and any other offensive material will be edited or deleted, and the offending visitor/member may be warned or immediately banned from using the forums. We realize there may be some grey areas in how the contents and context of images are interpreted, and moderators will exercise their judgment when determining the appropriateness of an image, avatar or profile photo.

Avatars and Photo Profiles are not intended to be used for advertising. They are only for posting pictures for members to reference each other visually. Please limit personal promotions to text only in your signatures and custom titles. Feel free to have fun with your profile photo if you do not wish to post a picture of yourself, so long as you stay within the guidelines above.

Members and visitors are free to use their signatures as they see fit, with the following restrictions:

1. Signatures are limited to 80 characters, including white spaces and may not be more than two lines, single spaced.

2. Signatures may not be used to post specific promotional information. When referencing a site you own, manage or from which you profit, you are limited to a site name, link and general tagline. For example, " - Clock Repair Specialist" would be just fine. " - Check out this months specials" would not constitute an acceptable general tagline.

3. No more than two smileys.

4. No increasing text size, though multiple colors and bolding/italicizing are fine.

5. No images in signatures, except for NAWCC message board-installed smileys.

6. The respect rule is in full effect.

English-speaking Forums

This is by no means an effort to discriminate against non-English-speaking visitors, but in order for moderators to do their jobs effectively, the language used within the forums must be understandable by them. In the future, if NAWCC message board recruits moderators fluent in other languages, we may consider allowing posting in those languages. But for now, thread titles, posts and signatures in any other language will be edited unless the use of that language is unavoidable for some reason and proper explanation is given. This rule does not apply to private messages.

The Number One Rule

The most important rule all NAWCC message board members and forum visitors must remember is that the judgment of the NAWCC Internet Message Board Review Committeeis final, and supercedes the word of any rule stated on this page. Committee members will make all attempts to be fair and will entertain all reasonable appeals regarding decisions they make. Ultimately, their decisions will stand, however. This effectively closes any loophole or shortsightedness within the forum rules.

Please note: Forum rules may be modified and additional rules may be made at anytime as deemed appropriate by site administrators. New and modified rules are enforcable retroactively at the time of their posting.

Copyright Notice

©2002-2008 NAWCC Message Board - All Rights Reserved Worldwide

1. It is the policy of NAWCC Inc. and the NAWCC Message Board to respect the copyright of third parties and to claim and defend its own copyrights to the full extent of the law.

2. All our Trade Marks, Titles, Logos, Names and Descriptions of Categories and Forums including but not limited to "NAWCC Message Board" are the property of NAWCC Inc. and World-Wide Ownership Rights are hereby asserted and protected.

3. All Intellectual Property and Images appearing on the NAWCC Message Board in any form or format are Ownership and Copyright Protected World-Wide. The copyright for the content is owned by NAWCC Inc. and/or individual authors and contributors.

4. Therefore no thread or part of a thread may be copied and placed on any other website without specific written permission of the administrator of the NAWCC message board. The author of course retains the right to the content and form of his/her individual post (but not to the thread as a whole) and may reuse his post any way he/she desires. If you wish to share the information contained on the NAWCC message board with someone, you should send them a link to the site or to a specific thread, rather than copy a post or a thread.

5. By participating in the Messages Boards of NAWCC you are supporting NAWCC’s mission of preserving and disseminating horological knowledge. By contributing to these message boards you are automatically giving NAWCC the right to publish and distribute the threads which contain your postings for educational purposes. Legally speaking, by participating in the Message Board, you are conferring to NAWCC Inc. a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual irrevocable, worldwide license and right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, distribute, display Message Board threads in whole or in part, including your postings and/or to incorporate them in other works now known or later developed. Such future use may include, but is not limited to Bulletin articles, books, CDs, websites etc, which NAWCC may create in the future. You cannot withdraw or retract the posting or seek payments from us in relation to this license at any time in the future.

6. NAWCC agrees that it will not use or copy or use individual postings (or parts of postings) outside of the context of the thread to which they were contributed, without first getting specific authorization from the author of such a post.

7. NAWCC further agrees that it will not sell, transfer or license the right to copy and use the NAWCC MB threads to outside third parties.

8. If an author desires to deny the automatic transfer of rights to NAWCC as described in paragraph 5 above he/she has the option to opt-out of the automatic license provision for a specific, single posting. The only way to opt-out of the automatic license acceptable to NAWCC isif a specific post contains, as its first paragraph, the sentence: "Copyright solely with XYZ [name {not MB handle}of the author] – Reuse prohibited". (The use of this sentence in the automatic signature block is not permitted, and shall not be a valid opt-out). To invoke the opt-out of the automatic license as per paragraph 5 above for an image posted to the NAWCC MB site, the same sentence must be imbedded into the image.

9. Posting copyrighted Material & Links to other Sites
Any material protected by copyright (unless you own the copyright) may not be posted on the message board without the expressed permission of the copyright owner. This includes reproducing the full text of news stories and articles. It is acceptable to paraphrase other works; citing the original source whenever possible. It is permissible to mention or link to other Web sites that are of interest to users of the NAWCC MB, so long as they do not violate message board rules and do not violate the linked web site's guidelines. The "no commercial or business use" guideline of the NAWCC message board in regard to posting links means that only posting links with "informational-educational-discussion material" intent are permissible, while links posted with a "commercial/business" intent are prohibited and are subject to being removed. The MB moderators are charged with enforcing this rule, like all other MB rules, using their judgment.
